Solid and Proven no limit Texas Hold'em strategy

There is a lot of strategy to this game and here are some of the basics. You can build off of these and formulate some advanced techniques.

Reading Your Opponent
Used in all forms of poker and one of the hardest to master. Try to figure out what your opponent is holding based on how he plays each hand. There is also another level to this where you can also try to think what your opponent thinks you have.

Raised Preflop?
Was the pot raised preflop, if not then we need to take note of how many players are left in the pot and be aware that the big blind could be holding any two cards.

Bluff
This is to bet or raise when you know you cannot win any other way. You need to represent a hand that you think your opponent will fold to. If there were 4 of a suit on the board, you could bet representing the flush and if your opponent does not have a flush also, they will probably fold. This is not recommended for novices as it is an easy way to lose chips.

Semi-Bluff
Semi-bluffing is where your are bluffing at a pot and can still draw to a hand that can win. For example you bet the flop with a four part straight. You are probably behind at that moment but you are hoping to take the pot right now and if you are called you can still hit the straight to win the pot.

Inducing a Bluff
When you have the best hand and show weakness. Your opponent may try to take a stab at the pot by bluffing. This will not occur very often but works good against a very aggressive player.

Mix it Up
Your opponents will label your play, so if you are playing tight they will respect your bets. Now if you loosen your play, your opponents will not be expecting it. Once they realize you are playing loose, then you change back to tight. Constantly changing your style will throw your opponent off and make it hard for them to put you on a hand.

Most great NL players can read their opponent and are able to pull off bluffs. They also mix it up to keep their opponent on their toes. They also tend to be aggressive to some degree. Learning these strategies will help you on your way to becoming a great NL player.
