“Bankroll” is a term that refers to the amount of money a poker player can afford to loose, without affecting his financial situation. Poker is a dangerous financial game, in which you luck is constantly changing and you can never know when you will loose or win for sure. The chances you can win/loose are very high once you play more then 3-4 hours at a time. This is especially true when it comes to online poker, because the card is dealt so fast and the game evolves at a very rapid pace.
If you are a beginner poker player, we advise you to start slow, at games with a small playing limit, in order to get the feel of the game and make sure you will not loose a lot of money in this first period. Try to have patience until you develop your poker skills and learn the game and what can change it in real time. The vast majority of beginner players underestimate the amount the “bankroll” represents, especially when you are playing at tables with certain limits for long periods.
The “banckroll” and the administration of your money are two very important things that are hard to manage and control even for the experienced players. Many experiences poker players can make many mistakes while administrating their financial situation and their bankrolls, ending up with no money more then one time during their lifetime. One frequent mistake is increasing the limits in a rapid pace. They increase their limit after only two weeks of playing and they bet it all. This way of playing poker will most certainly lead to bankruptcy.
There are many reasons that lead to this situation. First, you put to much pressure on your bankroll. You make a terrible mistake when you change to tables with higher limits. This is you will find stronger and more skilled players then you. You may not be ready to improve your game. Once you are a part of these tables you will have to change your game play constantly in order to be a step in front of the other. If you cannot manage this, you are in danger of becoming bankrupt. You also run under the risk of playing passively while at a high limit poker table. Many players panic when they are un-experienced and cannot afford to loose bit amounts of money at one time or one hand. Try to stay away from this type of behavior, it will bring you only misfortune. Try to play smart and have patience. Try to play at least 200 hours at a poker table with a reasonable table, where you are sure you can manage both the players and the pressure involved. By doing this, you are sure not to loose a lot of money. If you decide to try a table with a slightly higher limit, do it for a short period with a test bankroll amount of money. In case you see, you cannot resist those players and those chances renounce early and are not caught up in a loosing game.
Fortunately, for most professional poker players there are many poker fans who only play for fun. They use this game just to pass the time and enjoy themselves. If you are not 100% concentrated and committed to the poker game and you only play for fun, you are a part of the 95% of players that are satisfied to be amateur players. In this case we advise you not to ruing your hobby by playing at the poker tables with high limits, although sometimes it is easy to equal your loses and to win difficult poker games.
By studying poker strategies, playing, and using them at poker tables with low limits you w ill have big chances to win. The reason is that the other players that are involved in low limits table poker are not interested in winning. By being aggressive and persistent, you can turn out to be a lot better then your opponents.
