Poker, poker tells, online poker, Texas hold’em, poker tips, poker strategy.

Good poker strategy is all about sizing up your opponent and figuring out who’s got the best cards, then acting upon it. The element of chance lends an interesting probability calculation into each hand, which you’ve got to use to figure out who’s going to win the hand, and then bet on it – four times in each hand! When put like that, it should be clear how large an advantage poker tells can give you in Texas hold’em and other poker games.

Tells are all well and good when you are battling it out face to face in an offline game with friends, but what can you possibly glean from an online Texas hold’em game where you don’t even know what your opponent looks like? Quite a lot, as it turns out.

Auto Check/Fold.

Perhaps the biggest giveaway for opponents and certainly the biggest online poker tell you can give off, the auto Check/Fold is a killer. When you are on the button, never use the auto check / fold option. Online poker tells don’t get clearer than this one – when you use the check / fold option, the computer will automatically check or fold instantly when it comes round to your turn. What’s wrong with that? Nothing if you fold.

If you check though, that instant check will tell all your opponents that your hand wasn’t good enough to raise with – and that you’ll probably be easily pushed out by a small raise. Poker tips don’t get simpler than this one: Don’t use check/fold!

Chatter.

Just as with face to face poker games, the way your opponent talks and when they chose to talk can give you important poker tells to improve your poker strategy. Talking is nothing new in poker, but learning to recognize a person’s motivation for talking in a particular situation can provide important poker tells to the observant player, particularly in Texas hold’em.

These are just two of the poker tells which come up in online poker games - and there are plenty more to read about if you have time! Texas hold’em, being the most popular online poker game in the world, is packed with interested and creative tells, but it can take some cunning to figure out exactly what people might be telling you!
