Seven-card stud poker is a very well known version of poker that’s easy to play but difficult to master. Although players are dealt seven cards in the poker game of seven-card stud, it’s only the best five-card hand that wins the game. Hands are ranked according to accepted poker rules.
To begin a seven-card stud poker game, each player antes an agreed-upon amount into the pot. In the first round of a seven-card stud game, a player receives two hidden cards (also known as hole cards) and one exposed card. The player with the lowest exposed card in a seven-card stud game of poker begins the betting for this round. If two players have the same denomination exposed card, for example, a four, the suits of the cards are used to determine which four is higher. According to seven-card stud rules, suits are ranked as follows (high to low): spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs.
Each player then receives another card face up in seven-card stud poker. This card is called “fourth street.” Betting begins with the player whose exposed cards comprise the best standard poker hand according to the rules of seven-card stud. The play may either check or bet. Each player then receives another card face up. This card is called “fifth street.” Betting begins with the player whose exposed cards comprise the best standard poker hand. The player may either check or bet in the game of seven-card stud. Mandatory betting amounts increase in this and in all subsequent rounds. Each player then receives another card face up. This card is called “sixth street.” Betting begins with the player whose exposed cards comprise the best standard poker hand. The player may either check or bet. Then each player receives a seventh card face down and betting proceeds with the player having the hand with highest exposed poker hand. After betting, players expose their entire hands and the best five-card hand wins the pot. Note that even though a player’s seven-card hand may contain three pairs, he can only use two of the pairs, as per standard poker rules.
Seven-card stud requires good concentration and memory. It also helps to study your opponents’ tendencies. Because of the numerous betting rounds, it’s possible to make a great deal of money playing this game.
